Bio //
Juan Stockenstroom is a South African Artist.
His journey into art began in the streets of Cape Town, South Africa where he captured life and people as a young photographer in 2002 which then led to the commercial world of photography where started assisting various local and international photographers while doing his studies. In 2004, he went to London, England, leaving behind the sun-drenched city of Cape Town in pursuit of greater challenges and to broaden his skill set.
His transition from photography to retouching and digital art happened fluidly in London as his childhood love of drawing blended with photography and came naturally. This explorative approach led him to develop quickly and he quickly added 3D modeling to his bag of skills.
After a successful career as a digital artist in the United Kingdom, he returned to South Africa in 2011, where he continued working in the advertising industry as an award-winning digital artist by day and moonlighting as a fine art photographer in his spare time. Eventually, in 2018 on the back of a photographic solo exhibition, he made the decision to transition into the medium of painting, with little to no experience in the actual medium. However, having many transferable skills and strong visual literacy he dedicated all his time and effort to teaching himself the new medium. Within 6 months of picking up a paintbrush, he was fortunate enough to have caught the eye of a prominent South African gallery and started showing his work at various group shows and art fairs, and has since continued to pursue a career as a full-time practicing artist working out of his studio in Cape Town, South Africa. He has exhibited in The United Kingdom - London, The United States- LA, Paris - France, Frankfurt - Germany.
